Shibari

Shibari is a traditional Japanese art of rope-tying.

In a shibari session I use rope to bind the body, giving the sensation of safety, care, closeness, or comfort.

During the session, I will tune in to your body and what it needs, and use my hands and the rope to give you varying sensations. The feeling of being constrained gives you the feeling of being held. The rope against your body enables you to pull or push, feeling the limits of your body — and allowing you to surrender. At the end, you should feel relaxed and at peace, and present in your body.

Although shibari is associated with BDSM, it isn’t inherently sexual — and it definitely doesn’t need to be painful. The feeling of being bound is similar to receiving a massage (except that it’s a full-body sensation) and can therefore have therapeutic benefits.

*The sessions are fully clothed.

  • A one-on-one session. Before starting we will talk about boundaries and intentions, and the body parts you are comfortable having tied and touched. After the tying session, there is also time for ‘aftercare’: coming back down to earth gently, drinking some tea, and talking about your experience.
